I keep my blog as a personal record of what I'm up to, which might be seen as working towards "An elegant sufficiency, content, retirement, rural quiet, friendship, books, ease and alternate labour, useful life"

I'm certainly not there yet.  There is quite some way to go!

Happy New Year!

It was a strange start to 2016.  As long as we can both remember, we’ve seen the New Year in with a houseful of friends but a couple of months ago, whilst sorting out Edward’s traditional birthday jolly, my mind went off piste and I booked flights for today, New Years Day.  We had to speak to our dear friends and explain that sadly, 2015 was not to be “the same procedure as every year”.  So my hero and I spent the evening à deux, watching Dinner for One on YouTube as midnight approached.

We met Edward and Amy at Heathrow and seem to have spent much of the day in transit, though we haven’t really come that far.  As always, our destination was a surprise until Edward found a map in his Christmas stocking and thankfully, it was well received.

We flew to Bilbao where we’ll enjoy a few days of fun, food and culture and where this evening, we sit looking out of our hotel room high above the river.

Our plans to get a couple of recommendations from the concierge for somewhere to eat this evening fell on stony ground.  It’s a bank holiday of course and everywhere except the hotel restaurant is closed.  No pinxtos tonight then.  Never mind, we’ll hit the ground running tomorrow when we’ve got tickets for the Guggenheim and a couple of other recommendations to follow through.

Buenos noches from Bilbao then, or Gabon! as they say here.
