Lovely
I don't normally cross post to both here and my photo a day blog but perhaps today you'll indulge me if I post ever so slightly similar pictures in both places. The thing is, how lovely are these tins of pilchards?
I'm sure the folks in Waitrose this morning thought me strange as I stood ogling the delightful paintings on the three varieties. Even more strange when I lined up the tins, making sure they were all upright and pushing a bit of stray polythene a bit further down the tray of red cans. But no-one tapped me on the shoulder, no-one queried my motive as I clicked.
And having clicked, I had to share.
Oh, and yes, of course I bought some. But will we open them or just keep them because they're so pretty? Not many places where you can get a lovely piece of art for £1.29, are there?
Who would have thought pilchards and pretty would be used in the same blog post?

Off to Waitrose now! Yes they are so beautiful, but now I want to taste all three varieties to discern the differences.
Thanks for posting this and the link, just had to go and have a look as I grew up in Cornwall and my brother worked on a crabbing boat out of Portreath for years. No familiar names there though, probably all retired fisherman by now, it's a hard way to earn a living. Bought back some great memories of my years in Cornwall.
I'm thinking, which is always dangerous, that if you eat your pilchards and are very careful in opening them, you might be able to flatten out the lids and use them in some wonderful mixed media piece, worth a try for 1.29 :)
Thanks for your lovely comment on my blog, I'm really happy with the digital mags, I'd seriously think about it when your current sub runs out.
Weird coincidence Gill - I was in Newlyn yesterday, see http://paulenes366photos.blogspot.com/ for photos, (the left hand painting is of Newlyn), we bought langoustine and dabs for supper but no pilchards.
There is an empty tin here in the cottage but it doesn't seem to have been opened so maybe they are available empty.
