I keep my blog as a personal record of what I'm up to, which might be seen as working towards "An elegant sufficiency, content, retirement, rural quiet, friendship, books, ease and alternate labour, useful life"

I'm certainly not there yet.  There is quite some way to go!

Cheers!

Sloes are dripping from the trees in Gloucestershire this year. Mine came from the Bourton on the Water area and were picked for me (thanks Marjorie and Connie!)

Oh, sloe gin! Lovely!

I'm tempted by the shawl in your last post too, but mine may be defiantly red.

Are they bluets? Is that what sloe gin is? Gin with distillate of blueberries? How neat!

I'm don't think a bluet and a sloe are one and the same...a sloe comes from the blackthorn tree - have a look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blackthorn for a good picture.

Sloe gin is simply sloes steeped in gin for several months (in my house, a year) with sugar to sweeten. Wonderful warming drink for the winter months!

You can make a similar liqueur with damsons and maybe blueberries would work as well? I am, however, more of an expert drinker than a maker!
